In the gnarled bark and reaching branches of trees, I find reflections of my own story. This project explores the silent narratives of trees, imagining their experiences as unwitting immigrants in unfamiliar landscapes.
What tales would a tree tell if it could speak? What whispers might we hear in the rustle of leaves?
Through careful observation, I document the marks of existence etched on their surfaces - wrappings that bind, breaks that scar, tape that mends, ties that constrain, cracks that weather, and staples that puncture. These physical manifestations mirror the invisible emotional landscapes of displacement and adaptation.
While the origins of these arboreal subjects remain enigmatic, their presence in often incongruous urban settings suggests a shared transplantation experience. This visual inquiry draws parallels between human and non-human beings' superficial and abstract experiences, inviting viewers to reconsider their relationships with the silent sentinels that populate our world.
By focusing on these overlooked denizens of our environment, this work seeks to illuminate the interconnectedness of all living things and the universal struggles of finding belonging in an ever-changing world.
