공생도감 共生圖鑑 An Illustrated Guide to Symbiosis

(우리) 인간은 다양한 존재(물질, 동식물, 그리고 같은 인간까지)를 도구로써 인류 발전에 이용해왔다. 개인으로서 풍경을 마주할 때마다 ‘자연적’인 요소를 들여다본다. 거기에는 공존이나 공생 따위는 없다. 풍경은 오히려 인간과 비인간 사이, 인간과 또 다른 인간 사이 보이거나 보이지 않는 여러 겹의 벽으로 강화한다. 그러는 동안 내가 거쳐온 장소와 풍경은 시간이 지날수록 급속하게 서로를 복제하듯 닮아간다. 이번 작업의 목적은 이러한 공간과 경계 사이 틈을 주시하는 것이다. 이 틈을 통해 인간 중심적 관습과 시선 그리고 풍경/스냅 사진의 정의를 뒤집어볼 기회와 가능성을 만들고자 한다.

artist statement
We human species have been utilizing/exploiting other beings(other than human species) for our development. Throughout human history, I observe more made-landscape covered with ‘natural’ component; however, there is less coexistence or symbiosis. Rather the landscape would reinforce barriers between human and non-human, moreover human and human with extra (in)visible layers. Regardless of the places and landscapes where I stayed resemble each other aggressively and rapidly. My perspective, in this project, digs into the gap among those spaces and borders with a lens to rethink conventional 'natural' landscape by human species perspective, and moreover, blending a use of landscape and snap photography as a research tool as well.
